Wireshark is a free and open-source packet analyzer. It is used for network troubleshooting, analysis, software and communications protocol development, and education.
Perhaps you are wondering…what is a packet? In non-technical terms, a packet is a piece of information that is sent over a network. Among other things, it includes the origination of the packet (i.e. the “source”), the “destination” of the packet, and the actual message (payload) of the packet.
Wireshark is an application that can be used to monitor and troubleshoot network traffic by capturing every packet that travels over a network and displaying its contents.
Before you begin this lab, you will need to install Wireshark on your computer.
