Write a 3-4 pages paper documenting your human’s physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development during adolescence. How does your human’s development reflect what Piaget says about development at this stage? What is some evidence that your human is developing greater capacity for formal operations? Which of Erikson’s crises has your human encountered so far, and how has he or she resolved them?
Summarize what went well and what difficulties your human experienced during this period? Consider how race/ethnicity, class, and gender may have influenced these experiences, and remember to carry the events of your human’s previous developmental stages through into what you write this week.
Some ideas might include, but are not limited to the following:
What were some of your human’s the biggest challenges in transitioning to middle school?
Does your human have any social, intellectual, behavioral, or physical challenges?
How is your human’s self-confidence, and what is it based on?
How is your human functioning socially? What does he or she like to do for fun, either with friends or alone?
How does your human get along with his or her family members in the home? How have the parents or other primary caretakers responded to conflict or rebellion?
Does your human participate in any extracurricular activities such as sports, clubs, or arts-based activities? Are these different from his or her activities in earlier years? How does your human feel about these activities, and how do they impact his or her identity?
What has your human’s experience of puberty been like? Did a parent or guardian have a talk with him or her about what to expect as they go through those physical changes? If so, what was this like? If the talk covered sexuality, was the family’s religion incorporated into this discussion? If there was no talk with a parental figure, how did your human learn about puberty and sexuality?
What is your human’s sexual orientation, how does he or she understand and experience this?
