Steps to Writing the Paper:
Read the book, The Woman’s Hour, especially noting the various factors, conditions, groups and/or individuals that were involved in helping to pass the suffrage amendment in 1920. Also note how challenges and obstacles to passing the amendment were dealt with. Please note NO outside sources are necessary for writing this paper.
Write an outline for your paper that includes these elements:
Introduction: explain the background of the women’s rights movement
Body: explain how the suffrage amendment came to pass
Identify at least 3 specific factors/individuals/groups and the significance of their contributions
Address specific obstacles that were overcome in order to pass the amendment
Conclusion: reflect on the process of democracy – how does social and political change take place? How did the fight for woman suffrage influence later civil rights movements?
Write the paper! – a good method is to quickly write the rough draft based on your outline and then go back and edit
Optional Draft: you may turn in a draft or outline of your paper by February 25th if you would like my assistance or feedback. The draft will not be graded.
Format: the paper must be at least three (3) full pages (but no more than 5 pages), double-spaced, 1 inch margins, Times New Roman or Calibri size 12 font. Use parenthetical citations with the page number for direct references or quotations from the book. **Correct formatting is important and points will be deducted if format is not followed.
